WELCOME TO THE ALLIANCE
THE SHEPWAY TEACHING SCHOOL OFFICE TEAM
‘In a self-improving school system, more control and responsibility passes to the local level in a spirit of mutual aid between school leaders and their colleagues, who are morally committed to imaginative and sustainable ways of achieving more ambitious and better outcomes.’
David Hargreaves – Creating a Self-Improving School System – 2010
Our mission is to realise that vision of a self-improving system through collaborative working with schools to provide:
- Continuing Professional Development from Initial Teacher Training to Senior Leadership;
- School to School support by appointing Specialist Leaders of Education;
- Opportunities to collaborate in Joint Professional Development and to share research findings to the benefit of all.
We believe that ‘Together we can all achieve more’ and that partnership and collaboration between teachers in different schools is the only way to continually develop and improve teaching and learning for the benefit of students, parents and the communities in which we work.
THE BIG 6
Teaching Alliances are part of the Government’s move to give outstanding schools a leading role in the training and development of teachers and support staff. Like Teaching Hospitals, the aim of Teaching Schools is to create a ‘self-improving’ system which nurtures excellence and best practice. All Teaching Schools have 6 areas to address. Known as “The Big Six,” these are to:
Play a greater role in training new entrants to the profession.
Lead peer-to-peer professional and leadership development.
Identify and develop leadership potential.
Provide support for other schools.
Designate and broker Specialist Leaders of Education (SLEs)
Engage in research and development.
