Our excellent school-based Initial Teacher Training programme is tailored to individual needs and aspirations. Whether you are a recent graduate or you are considering a change of career, our programmes will give you the best foundation for a great career in teaching. Working closely with Canterbury Christ Church University we have a proven track record of supporting and bringing new talented teachers into the profession. ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

Shepway Teaching Schools Alliance is looking for high calibre trainee teachers with the skills and commitment to become outstanding teachers and future leaders in the teaching profession.

We look for candidates with the following strengths:
  • a passion for learning and an interest in/knowledge of education
  • excellent communication skills (both written and verbal)
  • the ability to stay calm and deal with stressful situations
  • a drive to succeed and resilience in the face of difficulty
  • the ability to be an equal part of a team
  • experience of managing teams and other adults
  • a sense of humour and the charisma to inspire and motivate our pupils
  • reflective practitioners who respond positively to feedback
  • interests outside of education
  • competence and confidence in the use of technology

Above all, we interested in those potential trainees who are motivated by a desire to see children thrive in their education and a commitment to see things through.

Entry Requirements
    • An honours degree in a relevant subject (we like a 50% match for secondary trainees)
    • GCSE Grades C or 4+ in English and Mathematics (and a Science subject for primary trainees)

Salaried trainees additionally require 3 years of work experience, preferably in a context which enables you to bring relevant skills and experience to enrich the lives of our pupils.

The Professional Skills tests are no longer a required part of the recruitment process, but we will assess your competence in English and Mathematics as part of our selection process.

Subject Knowledge

We audit the subject knowledge of all potential secondary trainees. We also prefer candidates to have a 50% match between their subject degree and the subject they wish to teach.

We regularly offer places on or programmes subject to completion of Subject Knowledge Enhancement Programmes – these range in length from 8 to 26 weeks, depending on how much the individual needs to develop their subject and curriculum knowledge before they can start to train.

Shepway Teaching School has a variety of primary and secondary placements in schools across the district for training through school direct in partnership with Canterbury Christ Church University.
